Institution
The University of Bamberg has existed since 1979, but its roots go back to a Jesuit academy founded in the city in 1647.At present, there are approximately 12,000 students enrolled at the
University, and the academic catalogue focuses on Humanities, Social Sciences, Cultural Studies, Economics and Applied Computer Sciences. Bamberg boasts almost 150 professors in four faculties: Humanities; Human Sciences and Education; Social Sciences, Economics and Business Administration; Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences. The University is split into two campuses: Humanities are taught in the city’s historic center, while science buildings are in the newer neighborhoods.

About Bamberg
Bamberg is a city of 70,000 in the forested region of Oberfranken (Upper Franconia).The cathedral with its four towers, and the old city hall, which is anchored in the middle of the Regnitz River, are the most renowned sites in the city. Bamberg is known for the various types of beer that are brewed in the nine private breweries in the city itself and in the many smaller breweries in the surrounding area. In the summer months, a visit to the numerous beer gardens is a favorite pastime for the young and old. The best means of transportation through Bamberg's narrow streets is a bicycle which will also take you to the idyllic countryside in no time at all.
Bamberg is surrounded by the Steigerwald, the Haßberge Nature Reserve, the Franconian Switzerland, and the Franconian lake district. There are good road and rail connections to the cities of Erlangen, Würzburg, Nuremberg, and even Munich. Trains run at regular short intervals and there is an inter-city express (ICE) train service every two hours from Bamberg directly to Berlin and Leipzig.

Program in Brief
Exchange students are not required to follow any particular course of study at the university, and may select classes in either German or English (almost all university departments offer at least some English classes). The university is also very flexible in the amount of courses students may take. Bamberg’s International Office organizes several excursions during the semester which are open to all international students. Each semester 4 to 5 day-trips and/or weekend trips (such as to Munich, Berlin, or the Alps) are offered for a small fee.

Orientation
There is a mandatory set of pre-departure orientations at PC for all students planning to participate in the program.

Housing and Meals
Students live in residence halls and have the option of choosing a one-, two- or three-bedroom apartment in one of the buildings. There are two university dining halls (one in the old town campus and one in the new town campus). Students can charge money to their ID cards in order to purchase food at a subsidized rate (4-5€/meal)
