Program Description

Institution

Université Grenoble Alpes is surrounded by the beautiful French Alps. The university has around 19,000 students, over 3,000 of whom are international students. Though the university’s focus is on social sciences, it offers over 200 different programs. Université Grenoble Alpes is ranked number one in Grenoble for the numbers of both incoming and outgoing international exchange students.

Main features include:

- 18 sports grounds and halls, including 36 tennis courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, climbing walls, archery and rowing facilities, and more
- 120 cultural events every year on campus

City of Grenoble

Grenoble, the host of the 1968 Winter Olympics and the largest urban area in the French Alps, is second only to Paris in leading France’s research. Located in southeastern France, the city is known as the “Capital of the Alps” because of its location next to the mountains. Grenoble is famous for attractions such as La Bastille, Palace of the Parliament of Dauphinè, the Museum of Grenoble, and the Archaeological Museum of St. Laurent, as well as its many ski resorts.

Program in Brief

Students may study at Université Grenoble Alpes for either a full year or a semester. Most of the university’s courses are taught in French, so a French proficiency level of B2 is required. International students may take French language classes along with their other courses or, for an additional 160€ per semester, an intensive French language course. Academic Program and Areas of Study

Université Grenoble Alpes offers courses in the following areas: Economy, Social Sciences, Business, Law, Political Science, Management, Marketing, Finance, History, Art History, Philosophy, Urbanism, Psychology, Sociology, Teaching Studies, Music, Maths Applied to Social Sciences, and Administration. French language courses are also offered.

Orientation

There is a mandatory set of pre-departure orientations at PC for all students planning to participate in the program. In addition, there is an orientation offered at the university.

Housing and Meals

Students may choose to live in traditional university residences (CROUS), renovated residences, or private residences elsewhere in Grenoble. Housing applications for students wishing to study in the fall semester are due by July 10th; applications for spring semester housing are due by November 15th. There are shops and restaurants on campus, including six student cafeterias.
