Program Description

The Southern Immersion Semester (SIS) is an exciting program that not only specializes in improving students’ English skills, but also provides plentiful opportunities for students to explore, understand, and fully experience the culture of the American South through carefully selected courses and unique travel experiences.

Eligibility
Students applying for the Southern Immersion Semester must:

Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate institution
Meet the minimum English level scores:
TOEFL: 480
iBT: 60
IELTS: 5.5
or TOEIC: 610
Application Requirements

Nomination Form: to be completed by your international advisor

Create An Account and submit the following:

Southern Immersion Application
University transcripts
Copy of passport page
Official score report of English proficiency (TOEFL, iBT, IELTS, or TOEIC)
Medical Form
Financial Certification Form


SIP students will be enrolled in three of the following core courses:

IENG 1021: Advanced Listening and Speaking
IENG 1022: Advanced Reading or IENG 1023: Advanced Writing or ENGL 1001: Introduction to Composition
ENGL 1002: Introduction to Literature
Students will also be able to choose one or two elective courses from the list below:

HIST 1100: Rise of World Cultures and Ideas or HIST 1101: Modern World
PLSC 201: Intro to Political Science
MDST 230: Introduction to Media Studies
MUSC 1100: Music Appreciation
MUSC 1101: Survey of American Popular Music
MUSC 1151: Music of the World’s Culture
WSGT 225: Intro to Women’ and Gender Studies
ECON 201: Principles of Macroeconomics
ECON 202: Principles of Microeconomics
PSYC 201: Introductory Psychology
ART 110: Survey of Western Art
SOC 201: Introductory Sociology
For the elective courses, SIP students will enroll with Presbyterian College students, providing an excellent opportunity for international students to meet new people and truly experience life as a college student in the American South.
