Program Description

Looking for an exotic Maymester location? The Business and Economics Department at PC presents their Maymester to South Africa.

BADM 458: Business in Cape Town
ECON 458: Culture, Politics and Economics in Southern Africa

We will be holding classes at the University of Cape Town and will be visiting with a number of local professors, business owners, entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs.

Key Cultural Highlights of the Trip:

1. Game Lodge and Safari: Rise in the morning to an African dawn and enjoy an early morning game drive with your dedicated professional ranger. Relax as your ranger guides you through the bush searching out the Big 5 or the smaller secrets of nature.

2. Climb Table Mountain: Undoubtedly South Africa's most famous landmark, Table Mountain (1067 meters above sea level) offers outstanding views of the City of Cape Town.

3. Robben Island: A short ferry ride from Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, will take you to Robben Island, a world heritage site 12kms from Cape Town. Once a prison to political activists and leaders during the Apartheid years, most famously past president Nelson Mandela.

4. The V&A Waterfront: Situated at the foot of Table Mountain, within a stone’s throw from the Cape Town Stadium and in the heart of Cape Town’s working harbor, the V&A Waterfront offers the visitor an abundance of unforgettable experiences. Indoor shopping and entertainment venues seamlessly merge with ocean vistas and mountain views and the fresh sea breeze and warm African sun add zest to a cosmopolitan, vibrant atmosphere. More than 80 restaurants bring a fusion of international food, from rustic al fresco fish and chips to starched table-cloth cuisine.

5. Cape Point: At the tip of the Cape Peninsula 60 km south-west of Cape Town, lies Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park; a declared Natural World Heritage Site.

6. Service Learning component: We will tour and interact with entrepreneurs in a historically segregated township.
