Program Description

Institution

Established in 1997, Pablo de Olavide University is one of the newest public universities in Spain. It is located in the historic area of Fuentequintillo. Although it has over 9000 students, it is one of the smallest universities in Spain. The beautiful campus is about 345 acres total.

Main features include:

- Facilities for 7 different sports
- Study room that can hold up to 240 students (plus 570 study posts in library)
- Up-to-date library with extensive print, periodical, and online resources
- 70 computers available in the library for students to use
- Computer rooms in several academic buildings
- Center for Student Services (C.A.S.A.) providing information on campus life

City of Sevilla

Pablo de Olavide University is situated just a kilometer away from Sevilla, a beautiful city in southern Spain. Sevilla has a history of over 2000 years and has many parks, monuments, gardens, palaces, and museums. Sevilla is also famous for its festivals, food, dances, and nightlife. Students may travel the city by bus or by train. RENFE (the national train service) provides discounted student tickets for train transportation.

Program in Brief

The University is dedicated to improving all aspects of society, demonstrated by its strong ties to colleges in Latin America, Europe, North Africa, North America, and Asia. The University offers a wide range of courses; it has six Faculties and twelve departments.

Academic Program and Areas of Study

Pablo de Olavide University has five departments: environmental sciences, social work, economic sciences, humanities, and law. The university offers courses in the fields of business, experimental sciences, humanities, law, social sciences, molecular biology, biochemical engineering, economics, philosophy, physiology, art history, neuroscience, zoology, and physical chemistry.

Orientation

There is a mandatory set of pre-departure orientations at PC for all students planning to participate in the program.

Housing and Meals

The residence hall on campus, La Residencia Universitaria José Celestino Mutis, has a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, furniture, heating and air conditioning, and satellite TV and internet access for computers in each room. The building has coin-operated washers and dryers as well as a common multi-purpose room with a TV, gaming tables, and vending machines. There is an optional weekly cleaning service that students may choose to use; this service cleans rooms and changes sheets and towels.

University Residence Flora Tristan is located off-campus. It is not for students only; other community members live there as well. The parternship between Flora Tristan and Pablo de Olavide University was set up as a project to promote coexistence between university students and community members.
