Program Description

Institution

Hanyang University was founded in 1939 and now has over 3,000 students going through its bachelor and graduate programs. Every year, over 1,500 international students from over forty-two different countries study at Hanyang University.

Seoul

With a population of over 10 million, Seoul is the capital and largest city in the South Korea. Its population is over twice that of New York and eight times that of Rome. Founded on the Han River in 18 BC, it continued to be the capital under the Joseon Dynasty and Korean empire. Seoul is surrounded by beautiful mountains, the tallest of which is Mount Bukhan. It has the world's highest fiber-optic broadband penetration, resulting in the world's fastest internet connections with speeds up to 1 Gbps. Seoul still has many ancient architectural attraction such as palaces aging back to the Joseon Dynasty, as well as museums practically overflowing with South Korea’s rich history.

The University of Hanyang has 15 different colleges on campus that offer a wide variety of majors and minors. The University offers courses in engineering, medicine, the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, policy science, law, economics and finance, business, education, human ecology, music, performing arts and sport, international studies, and nursing.

Orientation

There are two types of Korean language courses, Survival Korean class and Intensive Korean class. The Survival Korean class grants 3 credits and Intensive, 13 credits. Detailed information including the class schedule and application will be provided to students later. Students will register for Korean Language Program upon arrival and instruction will be announced at the orientation.

Housing and Meals

On Hanyang University there are multiple dormitories. Some located on campus, and some located right next to one of the campus gates. In and around the buildings there are general facilities like an ATM, a convenience store and a gym. Most rooms are shared with one roommate. However, there are also a limited number of single rooms available. Hanyang University provides on-campus dormitory and off-campus housing for international students. Only small number of scholarship recipients or students from designated countries will be allowed housing in the Dormitory due to lack of space. Thus, most exchange students including Europeans and Latin Americans will be placed in off-campus housing.
