Program Description

Institution
China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) is an institution of higher learning, located in Beijing, China, with a focus on preparing students in the fields of foreign language, foreign service, international studies, international business, and international law. By following the government’s 16-character code of conduct formulated by Premier Zhou Enlai, China Foreign Affairs University is able to graduate many of the most qualified and professionally competent students in the field of foreign service, many of which go on to serve their countries as ambassadors and embassy counsellors. CFAU attributes the success of their students to the school’s unique style of teaching summed up by the school’s motto, “Unanswering Loyalty, Mastery of Policies, Professional Competency and Observance of Discipline.” More specifically CFAU has designed the courses offered at their university in such a way that the emphasis of education is the idea of theory in practice. Furthermore CFAU students are taught a rigorous style of study through the seeking of truth from facts, while at the same time developing students into well-rounded professionals who are ethically, intellectually, and physically developed in their fields of study.

Academic Program and Areas of Study
Academic credit is currently offered in the following subject areas: Japanese and French Language courses, International Economy and Trade, Finance, International Law, and the Theories and Practice of Translation and Interpretation. Students wishing to attend China Foreign Affairs University must have passed the Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK test) of level 6 (Before 2009), or Level 5 or above of the new test after 2009. They must also pass any additional examinations conducted by the applied teaching department of CFAU

Beijing
Beijing, the capital city of China, is one of the oldest, largest, and most beautiful cities in the world and thanks to their hosting of the Olympic games in 2008, also one of the most modern. Additionally one would have to struggle to encounter a moment in which there is not something new and exciting to do. This because the city of Beijing offers hundreds of famous and ancient (as well as a couple famous and new) palaces, temples, monuments, landmarks, and other significant locations in which visitors can explore. Additionally the city contains the world’s largest water park, some of the world’s most beautiful gardens, and did we mention Olympic stadiums from the 2008 Beijing Olympics! Furthermore the city boasts a thriving nightlife, as well as some of the best food and restaurants from around the world. In the end what makes this city great is not that it offers a little bit of something for everyone; instead Beijing offers a lot of everything for everyone, so really there is no reason not to fall in love!

Orientation
There is a mandatory set of pre-departure orientations at PC for all students planning to participate in the program.
